Charles’ 65th Birthday

Man, this weekend required some coordination!  Jenny had to be in Los Gatos, California, for a work meeting Monday through Thursday.  We also needed to be in El Paso for Jenny’s stepdad, Charles’ 65th birthday bash.  To top it all off, Halo might come in season any day, and although we neutered Indy a couple weeks ago, Jenny’s parents’ dog, Mungo, and her brother Chad’s dog, Tybee, are both intact males.

Thank goodness for good friends.  Molly and Jason (who own Penny) offered to take Halo for the weekend.  Awesome.  This means Halo would get a ton of exercise, treats, squirrel hunting, and snuggles.  All her favorite things.

Back in Colorado, Penny & Halo at the beginning of a 5 mile run.  Molly said Halo wasn’t as bouncey post-run.

Jenny looked at flight schedules, and there was really no way to get to Denver by a decent hour on Thursday, meaning we would have to be in the car ALL day on Friday.    Marc has a 7 hour travel limit (don’t tell him, but he gets grouchy after that!)  However, since Thursday is his day off, he figured he could drop Halo with Molly, and then pack up the other three and get down to Albuquerque.  Flight times to ABQ looked great…we could rendezvous there, grab dinner, and finish the drive to El Paso on Friday morning.  Perfect!

Chillin in the hotel room in Albuquerque.  Nothing like seeing your dogs after a work week out of town!

So we made it down, the dogs were able to be infinitely spoiled by Jenny’s mom, Carol, all weekend, and we got in some great family time.  Charles’ birthday party was hosted by his partner, Doug and his wife Sondy.  They have an awesome view of the valley from their backyard, and hosted the party out there.  Even the centerpieces were perfect — Corvettes and flowers!  The catering was awesome and it was great to see our parents friends all get together to celebrate such an amazing man and role model in our lives.

Headed to the party!  Nice to get all dressed up every now and again!  L to R:  Jenny, Carol (Jenny’s Mom,) Autumn (Jenny’s sister-in-law)

Sunday, we made it to Trinidad.  Jenny had work in Southern Colorado on Monday, so stopping there was perfect.  This time we stayed at a La Quinta, which was pretty awesome.  They take dogs, the rooms were nice, there was a great off-leash area behind the hotel, and they have their own restaurant — which always makes traveling with dogs easier!  We highly recommend this location if you are traveling through Trinidad with pups!
