Halo hits Nebraska

This may have just been Halo’s best weekend yet!  This weekend was the Scottsbluff Kennel Club show weekend and it’s a show we enjoy every year.  The town is so appreciative of the dog show and the revenue it brings it in; they go out of their way to make everyone feel welcome.  This year was no different!

Friday, Jenny was driving to Cheyenne and got the call that Halo had won breed!!  Lucikly, she was able to make it up to Nebraska just in time to watch Baby Halo take a turn in the group ring.  The judge didn’t do a cut, but Halo looked ah-mazing…love getting to watch her flaunt that movement in a huge ring!  After groups, Sarah took her over to grab a breed win picture with our judge, Susan St. John-Brown.  Wow, what a nice woman!  She told Sarah and Jenny that she just loved her, “I was watching them enter the ring, and thought, dog, dog, dog, Oh my gosh, that’s beautiful!”  We are biased, but totally feel the same way watching her side gate 🙂  The entry included 20 Vizslas, so a great win for the Baby!

Saturday, we were expecting nothing, Halo just isn’t the “type” of Vizsla the judge usually picks.  However, we caught her watching Halo on every go round.  Just kept her eye on her a few seconds longer than anyone else.  We didn’t think Halo would be enough bitch (still no heat cycle) for her, but were so excited to see her get the nod for Select Bitch.  A wonderful surprise and 4 GCH points towards her Bronze title!

We didn’t think the judge would do anything for Halo today either, but after her exam and down and back he kept checking her out.  Sneaking peaks.  He didn’t even watch her on the first go-round, so this was a change.  After sending around the last dog, he came and stood right in front of Halo.  Halo wiggled out of her stack.  He re-checked movement on a few dogs (including Halo) and continued the cycle of staring at Halo and making her wiggle a few more times.  Sarah couldn’t help but let out a little laugh when he pointed at Halo for Select.  When Sarah walked out of the ring, we were cracking up about how naughty she was — the judge gave her more than her fair chance!  Since we had no expectations going into the weekend, it’s pretty awesome to be leaving with a Best of Breed and two Selects out of such a large bitch entry 🙂

With her wins this weekend, Halo is at 53 Grand Champion points!  We also need to remove some goals for Indy.  After getting Indy’s official measurement done and checking the obedience regs, we found out he would need to jump the highest jump height and also the broadest jump height.  Thinking that’s not very fair on his nearly 10-year-old body, we are going to remove that goal from his list.  Indy is officially retired from obedience!

Here is the new and improved goal list 🙂
