Halo & Tybee’s Christmas in El Paso

We spent the last five days in El Paso with Jenny’s family and as always, Christmas went to the dogs!  A couple weeks ago, Jenny’s brother (Chad) and sister-in-law, Autumn, moved to El Paso.  After serving for almost 10 years in the Air Force, Chad got out and went back to get his Masters in Accounting.  He just graduated from the University of Texas and will be joining his/Jenny’s step-father’s CPA firm in El Paso!  So for this year’s trip, we stayed at Autumn & Chad’s new house in El Paso.

On the road trip down South, we stopped in Castle Rock and left Indy with Tad.  Chad & Autumn’s house has a wooden staircase and no doggie door, so we thought we’d leave the 11.5 year old somewhere were he could be a bit more comfortable — Indy hates stairs!  When Karma saw her “Papaw” Tad she leapt out of the car and into his arms.  Tad asked if he could keep Karma too, so we headed out with just Halo and Schmavitz.

On the way down, we stayed at the Hilton Sante Fe off the Plaza this is a fantastic spot and dog friendly!  There is a park right across the street, and on the opposite side of the hotel, we found a great little pizza place.  Definitely recommend staying there if you are traveling with the dogs.

Jenny’s sister Rebecca, her husband Phil, and their kiddos Isabel & Alec were also home from Thailand.  Nothing like chasing little kids around!  We went on a 2-3 mile hike with Halo & Tybee almost every day, spent hours playing at the park with the kids, went to Christmas Eve service, and had our fill of Mexican food.  Halo and Tybee are the best of friends and all slept well after all the crazy zoomies in the yard all week.

On the way home, we stayed at another fabulous “dog hotel” — the La Quinta in Trinidad, Colorado.  The best part about this hotel is either the green chile they serve with the breakfast buffet, or the hiking trails right off the backside of the property.  Our dogs always get in a great run before we hit the road!  We’ll pick up Karma and Indy from Tad tonight and can’t wait to see them.  For now, we hope you all had a very Merry Christmas!
