Show dog activities in Del Mar

Today we hit the road to head back to Colorado, but what a whirlwind few days it was!  Because Halo’s breeder, Kathy Rust, was the National Specialty judge this year, Karma was ineligible to show in the National Specialty, but we still needed conformation points for Iron Dog!  Luckily there is a class on Wednesday just for that — the Iron Dog Bitch class and Karma got 4th place!  That was actually good for 4th place overall in the Iron Dog competition, so our muffin finished just out of the medals this year — so proud of her consistency and performance!

Wednesday was also the annual membership meeting and since Jenny is the VCA’s Recording Secretary she had to spend the lunch hour taking minutes.  Not bad though — we got an update on the Illustrated Breed Standard and it looks great so far!  Wednesday night was also the annual banquet where all the awards from the year are presented.  This year was extra special as Karma’s Grandma and Jamie’s dog, Geli was honored as the 2016 Hall of Fame Inductee!

Yesterday we had a bit of a break since Jamie and Carol also own dogs bred by Kathy and were ineligible to show.  Instead we headed to the beach and let the dogs run up and down the beach and play in the ocean.  Then Jenny was off to the Del Mar Drybar for a quick blow out to get fabulous for the All Star Review — yep!  Now that Karma is a Master Hunter, she is eligible for this elite event!  It was super fun, sipping champagne, showing Karma, AND her Daddy Tok took Best Veteran in Review!  After that, we headed back to Jamie’s room and celebrated Geli with a magnum sized, etched Stramsburg for her Hall of Fame nod.

Today, we watched Best of Breed where best girlfriends Ginger & Aja took an Award of Merit!!!  Aja hated showing as a youngster, so Ginger never finished her championship.  Aja was the only non-Champion to receive a nod of this honor — super cool.

VCA — you sure know how to throw a fabulous party — can’t wait for next year in Asheville!
