Twisters and Master legs

What an adventure!  Yesterday Jenny left Kansas early in the morning to make the drive from Topeka back to Denver with Jamie & Carol.  We rotated driving duties and halfway through the trip, we got an update from Tad that Karma had picked up her 2nd Master Hunter leg!  Woo-hoo!  Looking at the GPS time coordinates, we figured out that we would be hitting Strasburg (location of the hunt test) right about the same time that Tad would be leaving.  Not having Karma since Thursday, Jenny was ready to see her girl, so Carol and Jamie offered to swing through and pick her up.

Holy Moly.  Check out this footage of the tornado we had to drive through to get to her!  http://www.thedenverchannel.com/weather/tornado-watch-until-7-pm-for-areas-east-of-interstate-25

Not kidding — the sky was black.  We got reverse 911 calls that said “Tornado Warning, take immediate shelter.  We drove past storm chasers.  Seriously, re-read that last sentence!  Crazy.  Jenny asked Carol if she wanted to head back to the highway and get off the dirt road to the tornado…her answer, “don’t you need Karma?”  Good dog friends!  Then we pull up and Tad asks us if we want to let all the dogs out to run.  OMG, no!!  We grabbed Karma (and her orange ribbon!!) and beat feet.  Then on the highway headed home we got PELTED with hail.  So loud.  Carol and I were screaming.  It was nuts.  But lucky everyone made it out alive and safely.  And we never saw an actual funnel cloud form.

Today, Jenny and Marc drove back out to Strasburg with Karma and she picked up her 3rd leg!  Today is probably the best performance she has ever had.  It was cooler so she ranged out further and was super steady in spite of a naughty bracemate.  Her natural honor and retrieve were perfect as always.  We don’t have another hunting test opportunity this Spring, but hopefully we can bring her back out this fall to wrap it up!
