A most excellent day

What a great, great end to the weekend!  Back at the beginning of the month, we were showing at the Flatirons show.  Our friend Ginger is starting up a little business as a trial secretary and mentioned that there was an upcoming rally trial and entries would be closing soon.  Hmm.  It did present a nice opportunity — most Rally trials are in conjunction with a conformation show which makes things SUPER hectic — but this one was a standalone.  Making it even better?  There would be two trials each day, meaning that we could just enter one day and have a shot at wrapping up our titles.  (You need 3 legs to finish a Rally title, Indy picked up RE leg #1 in January, and Karma picked up her 1st RA leg at Vizsla Nationals.)

So we entered — and the dice roll paid off!  It was quite a gamble, as the show was being held in a horse arena.  Those are notoriously smelly and exciting (at least to our Vs), but it actually ended up being no problem.

Karma finishing her title was no surprise, our little Velcro-Mommy Vizsla paid amazing attention and qualified.  Not that we aren’t proud of Karma’s achievement, or constantly amazed by our uber talented little girl, but really there was no doubt in our minds she was going to pass.  She is just that once-in-a-lifetime girl, so eager to work for — and so in love — with us!  If Karma thinks a little turn in the Rally ring will make us happy (even if all those silly sits and turns seem so boring compared to agility) she will do it.  She’s just that kinda girl 🙂

And again, not to discount The Karm, BUT finishing Indy’s Rally Excellent title was one of the **BEST** feelings.  Indy had the bad luck of being the “learner” dog.  A big reason Karma is so successful in her performance events is because Jenny tried everything on Indy first.  So needless to say, getting Indy to the Excellent level in Rally was a dose of sweet success.  Together, he and Jenny overcame several missteps, thanks to dedication and Indy’s love of food 🙂  Very thankful we have such a highly food motivated guy!

And it gets better — we get to cross goals off our list!  This is the goal list Heather and Jenny made back in January.  We did tweak it a little on our Nationals Road trip (seriously, what else were we going to talk about for 40 hours in the car?)  As it stands, here is our updated 2012 goal list:

Rally Novice on Karma — DONE!
