VCA Rally, Agility, and Hunting Dog

Today was the day we have been looking forward to since the last Vizsla Nationals.  It was Agility Day!  We were also signed up for Rally, and Indy’s Hunting Dog class would happen today too.  Our schedule was super tight, filled with conflicts, but somehow, we made it work!

Karma reigned in our first ribbon for the 2012 Nationals in Rally Advanced.  This was her first time running in Advanced, and because she is just coming off her heat cycle, she hasn’t been allowed to attend class.  Needless to say, her 90 points and 2nd place was pretty darn exciting!

Then it was out to agility to get in her Open Standard run.  It was a pretty tricky course with some things we hadn’t ever practiced, but Karma came through and won 1st place!  She also nailed her weaves on the first try too 🙂  Gunner had a great run, but missed his contact on the dog walk (Ahem, Tokaji) so he was put down for an NQ.

Then Jenny jammed over to the conformation building to try and catch Indy before he hit the ring for the Hunting Dog class at the Regional Specialty.  Since Jenny was still rocking her agility outfit, Brooke Folley-Counts handled Indy for us.  Brooke is from Indy’s sire’s side (Classic Vizslas) so we are so thankful she was able to handle him.  And our sweet boy got a ribbon!  Indy and Brooke walked out with a 3rd place and big smiles.  It was really cute to watch them together.

Back to agility for Open Jumpers, which ended up being totally bizarre.  At the start line, Karma was locked on to some scent on the far side of the ring.  She was in a sit stay, but her face totally indicated a point.  Jenny got her off the scent and then started the course, but after she swung around jump four, she saw the judge and completely cowered away.  It was really weird.  Like beyond weird.  Karma doesn’t ever cower at people to begin with, let alone in the middle of her favorite agility game.  But if it wasn’t going to be fun for her, we weren’t going to stay.  So Jenny headed to the exit, called Karma, and Karma proceeded to go check out the judge, all wiggly butt and normal.  SO WEIRD.  Gunner’s jumpers run was really great!  He was taking full strides and totally booked it, unfortunately, he had a wrong course, so it wouldn’t count as a Q.  However, Heather and Gunner really looked like a team out there — and a fast team at that!  Pretty soon they will be unstoppable.

After the awards ceremony, it was time to pack up and reset the crating area for the rest of the week.  Then off to dinner with Ginger, Cynthia, and Peggy.  Fun, fun, fun!
