Enjoying our last moments

Our good friend Liz, who we mention often on this site, is losing her battle with Leukemia.  Back in January, she was told there were no more treatments they could offer her and she was sent home from the hospital.  Not much in life makes Liz happier than her dogs, so we’ve been trying to include her Weims as much as possible.  This means field training for Gavi who was working on her MH with Liz last fall and cheering on Stoli in conformation as Liz hopes will be at Westminster in 2011.

This past weekend was a big weekend for Stoli who went BOS on Friday, took Breed Saturday and Sunday, and finished up Sunday with a Group 4 placement.

When Stoli got back in town, Jenny went for a visit down to Elizabeth to see Liz and Tim.  Liz had been mostly unconscious all day Sunday, but some funny comments about Stoli’s weekend got a lucid moment with a smile and a giggle out of Liz.  Later, we put Stoli up next to her bed and rested her hand on Stoli’s head.  Liz perked up for another few seconds and nothing was more wonderful than seeing her open her eyes.  We finished up the evening siting with Liz, eating pizza, and watching hockey…we think she’d approve of all but the hockey selection!

It was a tough ending to the weekend, but I think the next day or two will only be more difficult.  Our hearts ache for Tim who has proven to be a wonderful caretaker and husband.
