Finally Meeting Maya

Rewind to when Jenny got her first big girl job in 2003. She was fresh out of Texas A&M with a BS in Genetics and had been waiting tables for 5 months trying to get her professional career started. Finally, that job came in the form of an inside sales role at Hewlett-Packard in Colorado Springs. And in the new hire training class were about a dozen people, and only one other person was a college new hire. That person was Dan and he would become Jenny’s BFF.

After about 6 months of making a real paycheck, Jenny and Dan decided it was REALLY time to grow up. So Dan found a realtor and both used him to buy their first houses…just 2 neighborhoods away from each other. Then since there was a house, dogs were needed! So Dan went out and bought Kona, and Jenny found a flyer in the HP kitchen announcing poodles for sale. Yep. Totally got Schmav from a backyard breeder….just look at me know!

Anyway, Schmav and Kona grew up as besties. They went to all the 20-something theme parties, ski trips, and Kona did a fair amount of camping. Big mystery why Schmavitz didn’t get to do that! And here we are all these years later, and Schmav is still going strong at almost 15. Kona, sadly passed about two years ago. He had a great full life, but it’s never easy saying goodbye.

Kona & Schmav as little muffins and before all our pictures were digital.

The time finally came when Dan was ready to adopt a new pup. Jenny received a very excited text that said, my new dog is listed as a GSP/Vizsla mix! He adopted her from the Humane Society, so who knows, but she’s definitely a bird dog and she does have the Vizsla copper-colored eyes!

It’s been OVER A YEAR (he got Maya in January 2019) and you know what we haven’t had time to do? Get the dogs together! If there is one thing this quarantine is doing, is giving us back time. So we met up at one of Denver’s huge dog parks today and let the girls have a play date. They had a ball! Cheeky loved having someone to keep up with her speed and energy, and I think they could have stayed out there another hour if a storm hadn’t started rolling in.

There was a mud pit. Notice the GSP is muddy from nose to toes and the Vizsla is clean as a whistle. Prime example of a difference between Vizslas and GSPs!

So happy to have a new generation of dog-besties! And it just has to be said, it is SO weird to see your best friend and not give him/her a hug! But the social distancing rules were followed and they stayed at least 6 feet away from each other and just did some bows in greeting. Hoping the girls get together sooner rather than later.
