Meet Garrett

For a week in September, we puppy-sat Karma’s BFF, Ellie, while her parents traveled back East.  Having Ellie around required no extra effort.  And once Ellie left the house, it seemed oddly empty.  We already go for an off-leash run daily and spend the weekend doing dog activities (hunting, hiking, etc.) so what’s one more Vizsla?

So we took the plunge and contacted our local Vizsla rescue, Colorado/Wyoming Vizsla Rescue Group, and asked to be considered as a foster home.  After checking our references, interviewing us, visiting our home, and signing our life away — we were selected to care for our first foster!

Everything happened pretty quickly, and we couldn’t be happier with Garrett.  He is so sweet!  First on the agenda was to trim back his nails.  Poor guy’s feet were splaying and his nails were so long they were starting to curl under.  But Garrett was a trooper, he let Marc dremmel his nails while Jenny occupied him with lots of treats and petting.  He honestly didn’t fuss a bit!  When we were done, Marc’s black pants looked like a bottle of baby powder had exploded on him!  He dusted off and we happily watched Garrett go for a big run in the backyard — seems he appreciated his pedicure!

We made sure he would be comfortable by getting a new bed for the crate (so it wouldn’t smell like anyone but him), a few new toys that would be his, and a flexi-lead so we can work on recalls during walks.  He made quick friends with our pack and embraced the doggie-door.  He can also sit for treats with the best of them (ie. Indy).

We are so happy to have Garrett in the house and look forward to helping him heal and find his forever home 🙂
