Wrapping up yard renovations

I think quarantine has made everyone tackle projects around the house, and we are now different. Earlier this summer we posted about laying the slate running path and re-seeding the yard. This week, we installed the planter, planted new plants, and sat back to enjoy the beauty of our new dog friendly yard!

First step was making a base for the steel planter…you can see that Cheeky was a big help!
Finished mini patio for the planter! Jenny and her cousin Marie spent hours leveling out this base.

The design was done by Jenny’s cousin, Marie. She moved to Denver last year, and we’ve been anxiously awaiting her design concept. It had to be dog friendly, and Jenny was hoping for some peace and serene additions. Marie’s idea for the planter was to add some color while softening up the harsh wrought iron gate dividing the dog run from the yard. The planter, made of steel, will age overtime with rust, fitting in just perfectly with our dogs!

Plants in! Most are perennials with a couple annuals for pops of color.

In the dog run, Marie planted some bamboo on the other side of the planter, a pink trumpet vine, and then another apple tree to add more shade to the dog run.

The greenery in the corner really softens the look! The dogs have decided they are part panda!
Our cute new Gala apple. Hoping it will help pollinate our Honeycrisp!
This climbing vine will be covered with pink flowers soon!

Finally, we added in three new bushes along the fence, mulch, and some ground cover plants. The yard is now amazing — dog friendly, tranquil, and really quite beautiful! We so appreciate all the thought Marie put into design, dog friendly plants, and natural ways to encourage the dogs to not destroy the yard like the slate path for squirrel chasing!

Our corner much improved from the dirt corner where we couldn’t get grass to grow!
