Healing in the Mountains

About 10 days ago (July 20 to be exact,) our friend Lindsay got some very sad news. After 18 months of searching, she received the call that someone had found her Delaney’s collar. Delaney had been spooked by back country skiers when Lindsay was hiking with a friend on February 5, 2019. Over the last year and a half, we have all done shelter checks, posted missing/reward signs, and honed our best PI skills. Her collar was found still clasped and in a wooded area by a Ranger. While we hoped Lindsay would be reunited with her sweet girl, we are hopeful that her heart can begin to heal with the closure.

Lindsay had a huge following of people across the country trying to help locate Delaney, and a couple days ago, she gathered the courage to write a post letting everyone know she is gone. So we planned a hike for today to help heal her soul with some fresh mountain air and a hike with the red heads.

Since the National is in Estes in a few weeks, we wanted to scout a trail that visitors could do. We were hoping for something not too steep since most attending do not live anywhere close to our altitude. One of Jenny’s friends, Joanne, knows that area better than anyone, so we asked for some suggestions.

The winner was the Peaceful Valley loop, starting at Camp Dick up the Buchanan Pass Trail. Flowers were at their peak, and we ended up doing a long out and back hike instead of the loop. We even almost made it down before the rain! There was a creek the whole way, so the dogs had ample time to cool down too.

Today is also Colorado’s birthday! Hiking seemed like a great way to celebrate the 144th birthday 🙂

Masks are required for tight trail spots. Ended up not needing them much!
